final Capstone project
Built In Language explores language as the earliest human interface, our first technology for connection, memory, and creative expression. Inspired by a friend's wish to fluently speak every language, the project examines how society defines language and how it functions as an artistic medium.
The video draws on culturally specific words that encapsulate complex, nuanced concepts. These words reveal how language shapes experience: when a feeling is named, it becomes recognizable and shareable; without language, it can remain undefined. Each language offers its own framework for understanding emotion, time, and memory.
Created in After Effects using 2D animation and motion design, typography becomes both image and text—expanding, fragmenting, and dissolving to reflect shifting meaning. Ultimately, the work affirms language as a living, evolving medium and the often-overlooked significance of being able to communicate.
